In an industry fueled by the latest and greatest gear, technologically advanced clothing and materials, and HUGE trophy animals, as a two year old traditional archer, I think it is important to set realistic expectation, take advantage of technology (within your own standards of what defines your experience), and be happy with how YOU decide you want to hunt.

As you read this short post, keep in mind, I’m a 29 year old, hard-working small-business professional, and prior to 2014 I hunted in hand-me-downs and Wal-Mart specials. (That’s age 12-28 in my father’s, friends, and even some of my grandfather’s clothes)

As a husband, I believe finances are a combined decision making process… especially for my hobbies, no matter how passionate I am about them, so with my wife’s permission: I’ve taken leaps and bounds in the direction of acquiring quality clothing and hunting gear in the past couple years. With a solid year under my belt I can definitively say I’ve noticed an incredible difference in my hunts.

Don’t get me wrong, like most logical individuals I fully believe better clothes and gear don’t make you more successful (I’m living proof of that fact), but I can definitively say they do make you more comfortable, more resilient, and more focused.

So am I happy with my investment? Most definitely. I don’t miss sweating more while moving, getting colder sitting still, and love being able to move more freely. Has it made me more successful? In one way I can’t say it has because I’m still waiting on my first trad bow buck. In other ways, I can definitively say I would’ve stayed in bed on every day that it rained if I didn’t have clothing that responded well in the rain. I consider more days in the field a plus wether there’s a successful harvest at the end of the day.

Over the next few months, Kevin and I will be throwing together some reviews of some traditional archery gear as well as the clothing we’ve invested in. All in all, We’re living our dreams, working hard at our real life jobs, loving our real life families, and spending as much time outdoors as we possibly can. What do you dream about?
